Constellation Orion
Reflection Nebula
In the very center, you will see V380 Orionis, notice the faint dark line in this image.  This a reflection nebula, sometimes called the keyhole nebula for its shape.  Astronomers were at a loss to explain this and it was assumed that it was an extremely dense pocket of gas.  In 2009, using the Mayall and Magellan telescopes, it was determined that it is not gas, but truly empty space.  Astronomers are still trying to figure it out.  We are very pleased that we were able to get the keyhole, while it may not be as impressive as the others, we are very pleased with it.
