Spiral Galaxy
Constellaion: Coma Berenices
Discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781, and added to Messier list also in 1781.  This is a small dim galaxy - part of the Virgo cluster of galaxies, one of 16.  It is some 60 million light-years from earth.  According to the Astronoy Reference Guide, it is one of the most difficult galaxies in that cluster to observe. (and we have it!)  At 10.0 visual magnitude
There are some astronomers who feel it should not be clumped in with the Virgo Cluster, but is in the foreground.  This bad boy is coming towards us at a rate of 1200 km/sec.
