Deep Sky
M40
Double Star
Constellation Ursa Major

This is the first double star that we’ve imaged.  It is some 300 light-years from earth.  There is an interesting story about these bad boys.  It seems that Messier was told there was nebula at this location, so categorize it, he tried to find it but could not find it.  He did fine the double star and decided why should he let a perfectly good M go to waste, here you’ve got it. Old M40.  The are magnitude of 9.0 and 9.3.
