M38 is considered an intermediately rich open cluster,
they are approx 200 million years old. This Messier is located in
the disk of our Milky Way, most are a little farther away from the
disk. The cluster is approx 25 light-years across and some 4,000
light-years away from us.
Because it is an open cluster and gravity is not as intense has a
globular cluster, over time the stars will spread out more. One
day there will no longer be an M38!
